Frequently Asked Questions

When choosing auto insurance, it’s important to find coverage that fits your needs. How you use your vehicle will help you decide. For example, how many kilometres you expect to travel per year and the places you frequent are a few things to consider. Remember to always check that these variables are still the same when you renew your insurance, since you could end up saving by changing them.

It's also a good idea to compare multiple insurers. But be careful, price alone won’t tell the whole story. You have to make sure you’re getting the coverage you need. You should also take customer service into consideration. Nobody wants to make a claim, but if it does come to that, the last thing you would want is for the difficulty you’re already experiencing to carry over to how you’re treated as a client. Customer satisfaction surveys are regularly published by consumer organizations and media outlets.

If you’re looking for a quick quote, an online quote is a great option. You can also contact different insurance companies directly by phone. An insurance agent will take the time to answer your questions. Don’t hesitate to contact us at 1-866-650-4689 to get a quote. Auto insurance premium rates are customized for each person insured. They’re determined based on each insurance company’s underwriting, which is based on the vehicle to be insured and the driver’s profile.

Other factors can also have an impact on the insurance premium, such as the make, model and year of the vehicle you drive, whether it’s a new or used vehicle, whether it’s owned or leased, repair costs, etc.

Your insurance company will also take into consideration how you use the vehicle, your annual mileage, your driving record, where you live, past claims, etc., to determine your insurance premium.

Finally, the coverage you choose will also affect the cost of your premium. The deductible amount, added replacement cost coverage, civil liability amount and any other additional coverages you add will have an impact on the cost of your auto insurance.

Many factors come into play when trying to reduce the cost of auto insurance premiums, starting with how you use your vehicle and the type of coverage you choose.

Has your child just gotten their driver’s licence and you want to add them as an occasional driver to your car insurance? All you need to do is simply contact your insurer and tell them you want to add a new driver to your auto insurance policy. The insurance agent will ask you several questions about the new driver for information about their driving record.

Here is the information you will need to have on hand:

  • Name and date of birth of the driver
  • Their driver’s licence number and date they obtained their licence
  • Information on claims history

In Quebec, a Joint Report is an essential document to have in the glove compartment of your vehicle.

This document can be used when there is a fender-bender between two vehicles and no damage is caused to any third parties.

The information contained in the Joint Report will be very useful when you contact your insurer to make your claim. In addition, it will help establish the responsibility of each motorist in the accident. It is therefore important to accurately identify those involved.

Want to get a Joint Report to have on hand? You can order one or download and print a copy from infoinsurance.ca. You can also fill out a Joint Report directly online.

All owners or renters of a car, motorcycle or truck must, at minimum, have civil liability insurance. Additional coverage is not mandatory, but some are strongly recommended, such as risk of collision and upset and all perils other than collision or upset.

There are many reasons why you might want to cancel your auto insurance policy. For example, maybe you’re moving out of the country where you will use a vehicle provided for your work. Before cancelling your policy, it’s a good idea to talk to your insurance company. They may be able to advise you and offer you different options.

However, if you are certain that cancelling your policy is your only option, you can do so by email, by letter or by contacting your insurer directly by phone.

Depending on the number of months remaining on your policy, be aware that a cancellation fee may apply.
