Who Should Consider Asset Allocation Funds?

People who, perhaps like you, have little time or interest in monitoring the financial markets and evaluating the investment funds offered.

What Are Asset Allocation Funds?

Asset allocation funds are a combination of Canadian equity funds, foreign equity funds and fixed-income funds. As such, they provide three levels of diversification :

allocation among the asset classes (bonds, Canadian equity and foreign equity);

allocation among the various economic sectors and geographic regions;

integration of the visions and strategies of several renowned investment managers.

What Are Their Objectives?

To facilitate your investment choice so that you won’t have to constantly monitor the financial markets and to maintain good investment diversification. In this way, if a particular asset class or investment fund performs poorly, your investment portfolio can still continue to provide an attractive overall return, according to your retirement objectives.

How Are the Assets Allocated?

Each asset allocation fund proposes a target allocation among the various asset classes. However, they must respect certain investment guidelines to avoid exposing the asset allocation funds to overly high levels of risk.

How Are the Funds Selected?

The funds that form part of the asset allocation funds are selected on the basis of an in-depth analysis of a series of quantitative and qualitative criteria.

The quantitative analysis is used to select funds that, in the past, have consistently obtained excellent returns compared to the market.

The qualitative analysis consists of several criteria:

background of the management firm;

expertise and stability of the team of managers;

reputation of the firm in the market, etc.
